A9 dualling Perth to Inverness

This £3 billion project involves the upgrade of 80 miles of single carriageway along the A9 between Perth and Inverness by 2025.

In Preparation

The project is designed to deliver economic growth through improvements to road safety and journey times as well as better links to pedestrian, cycling and public transport facilities.

Dualling the A9 will also provide greater access to the many tourism and recreation sites along the route of Scotland's longest trunk road.

With construction underway on the first section to be dualled between Kincraig and Dalraddy, to be completed in summer 2017, and the design work being stepped up across the programme, you can find more news about the dualling programme in the October 2015 update newsletter

Our project strategy identifies packages of design and development work to be programmed over the coming years with the objective of completing the dualling by 2025. The A9 trunk road is the main route that connects central Scotland and the Highlands.

It stretches from Dunblane, situated north of Stirling, and travels north bypassing Perth and Inverness before finishing in Thurso.

The route is made up of single and dual carriageways with varying speed limits.
