A9 Pitlochry to Killiecrankie

A9 Pitlochry to Killiecrankie is one of the 11 schemes that form the Scottish Government’s £3 billion A9 Dualling between Perth and Inverness. The 5.7km scheme is currently being designed by Jacobs Engineering on behalf of Transport Scotland with the intention of developing route options and progressing the scheme through the statutory process.

More details of this process can be found on: http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/road/a9-dualling-strategy

Engagement with directly affected communities and businesses is at the heart of Transport Scotland’s projects and is a vital part of our work as we develop our ambitious plans to dual the A9 between Perth and Inverness. These engagement events regularly take place along the route and details can be found on the Community engagement web page.

Design Challenges

Following the initial work undertaken by the Preliminary Engineering Services Commission a DMRB Stage 1 report was produced for the whole of the A9 corridor and for this particular section the following must be considered as part of the ongoing design process:

  • Widening the 160m span structure over the River Tummel and the 150m span structure over Loch Faskally, both designated as Special Areas of Conservation, will introduce environmental and construction challenges.
  • The Pitlochry junctions within this section could disrupt access to and from the town.

Indicative Route Option Plan

As part of the May 2014 public exhibitions Transport Scotland have presented plans detailing indicative route options for this section of the A9 dualling.

Community engagement events offer the opportunity to come along and discuss any points or queries you may have in relation to the scheme directly to designers.
