The M74 northbound carriageway between Junction 6 Hamilton and Junction 5 Raith will be closed overnight (8pm and 6am), Monday to Friday for essential road surfacing works on the following dates:
- Monday 3 August until Saturday 15 August
As a result, the M74 northbound on-slip at Junction 6 Hamilton will also be closed overnight for the duration of the works. The M74 northbound carriageway and Junction 6 Hamilton on-slip road will re-open at 6am each morning, with no works scheduled over the weekends.
These closures have been scheduled to take place overnight to minimise disruption to traffic, and are required to ensure road user and worker safety whilst we undertake essential surfacing works to repair the carriageway at this location.
Signed diversion routes
(in operation each night)
- M74 northbound traffic: exit at Junction 6 Hamilton off-slip road to the A72 (Hamilton Palace Grounds) then B7071 Bothwell Road, before joining the A7071 to return to M74 northbound via Junction 5 Raith on-slip road.
- M74 northbound Junction 6 Hamilton on-slip road: join the M74 southbound and join the northbound M74 at Junction 7 Larkhall, following the signed diversion to Junction 5 Raith as outlined above.
These works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership (SRP) on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of the route.
The overnight closures have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Hamilton Services, the South-West Operating Company and South Lanarkshire Council, and are weather dependent.
