A82 tree surveys to start early next year

Tree surveys, part of the design and assessment work for the scheme to upgrade this section of the A82, will begin on 9 January 2017 and are expected to take 3 weeks, weather permitting.

The surveys are required to identify areas of habitat and assess the environmental impact of the proposed road upgrade.

 Although most of the work will not be carried out on the existing road, the traffic management measures will be in place to allow work beside the carriageway to be carried out safely.

The traffic management arrangements will include single lane restrictions using stop-go boards.

A Transport Scotland spokesman said:

“The Scottish Government remains committed to delivering the important upgrade of the A82 between Tarbet and Inverarnan.

“In advance of the full upgrade, we have delivered a programme of short-term measures along the route cutting back vegetation, clearing blocked drains and removing loose stones and boulders from the verge.

“These tree surveys will help inform the ongoing design work for this scheme which will bring significant improvements for road users and local communities who rely on this road which connects the Highland and Islands with the central belt.”

Transport Scotland apologise for any inconvenience these works will cause and would thank road users and local communities in advance for their patience over the three weeks of the works. The contractor will closely monitor the operation of the traffic management measures to ensure that delays are kept to a minimum.
