A9 Dualling: Tay Crossing to Ballinluig
Preparatory works have commenced on the fourth section of A9 Dualling between Tay Crossing and Ballinluig this Autumn. The works, which are anticipated to continue through to early 2026, will involve establishment of the temporary site compound and office space area between Guay and Kindallachan, creation of access points along the section to facilitate works traffic, tree felling operations and works to facilitate utility diversions for the project.
The construction contract for the section was awarded to Wills Bros Civil Engineering Ltd in Summer this year. The £257 million (at Q2 2025 prices) Scottish Government investment in the project will upgrade 8.2km (5 miles) of single carriageway to dual carriageway between Tay Crossing and Ballinluig. The project will provide a safer, more resilient link for road users travelling on the A9 whilst delivering a range of benefits for the local community and businesses including training, educational and employment opportunities.
In addition to commencing site clearance works, the contractor for the works will hold ‘Meet the Contractor’ events for local residents, communities and businesses to share their plans for the construction works. Dates and venues for this will be advertised in the coming weeks.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop MSP, said:
“Works are now visible across the Southern and Northern extents of the A9 Dualling Programme and this progress will continue in line with our commitment to see the A9 fully dualled by 2035.”
“I appreciate that this may mean some disruption locally and I would encourage anyone who lives locally to attend the upcoming engagement events being held by the contractor.”
To ensure the safety of workers and road users whilst these works are undertaken, temporary traffic management will be required with the layout for these changing between Jubilee Bridge and Ballinluig whilst the contractor undertakes works at various locations within the project area. Details of upcoming traffic management will be communicated via the Traffic Scotland and A9 Dualling websites and our usual channels, and road users are encouraged to check these regularly for updates.
Transport Scotland’s Project Manager, Ruth Whillis said,
“We are working closely with our contractor to deliver these preparatory works in a way that will minimise disruption to traffic and local communities as much as possible. We are asking road users to approach the area with care as traffic management layouts will change.”
