AWPR - short 15-minute Closures for A90 at Charleston

The contractor for the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty (AWPR/B-T) project will close the A90 at Charleston for around 15 minutes each hour between midnight and 4am on Saturday 23 June to facilitate essential utility works.

It is anticipated that these temporary closures, called a ‘stop-stop’ because traffic in both directions will come to a complete halt, will take place after a series of lane closures has been implemented on the A90 from 8pm on Friday 22 June.

To allow the utility company to undertake preparatory works, lane closures will also be implemented from 8pm on Thursday 21 June until 6am on Friday 22 June.

The ‘stop-stop’ will take place during the early hours of the morning when traffic flows are at their lowest and will enable the cable works to be undertaken safely by the utility company. The ‘stop-stop’ will be imposed every hour until the works have been completed. The A90 will re-open immediately after each ‘stop-stop’ period, with all lane closures removed by 6am on Saturday 23 June.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said:

“Subject to weather conditions, it will be necessary for the contractor to implement a number of temporary closures of the A90 at Charleston for a period of up to 15 minutes early on Saturday 23 June to allow essential utility works to be safely undertaken.

“Anyone planning to use the A90 at Charleston between midnight and 4am should build in the possibility of a short delay so that they can reach their destination on time.

“We would like to encourage all road users to observe all road signage to enhance their safety, as well as the safety of others.

“We would also like to thank road users for their continued patience and support during the construction of this major infrastructure project.”
