Ferry returns to Islay route

Commenting on the return of the MV Hebridean Isles to the Islay ferry routes, Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf said:

“I’m very pleased to see the MV Hebridean Isles repaired and headed back to full service on the Islay routes at a critical point in the calendar for local tourism. The disruption to ferry services was deeply regrettable.

“I recently visited Islay and understand the problems being faced by travellers. I am aware of just how important the Islay Show is for the local economy and community and I appreciate the problems with the ferry service came at a bad time for the island. I pay tribute to ferry users for their patience and CalMac staff for working hard to deliver services under very difficult circumstances.

“I am very keen to make sure that lessons are learned from this disruption so I will be holding further discussions on this incident with CalMac to highlight the inconvenience caused and ask them to consider contingency measures for any similar incidents in the future.”
