Go ahead for Aviemore to Carrbridge active travel route

The Aviemore to Carrbridge Non-motorised User (ACNMU) project was granted planning permission by the Cairngorms National Park Planning Committee at its meeting today.

This decision is a positive step towards the construction of a shared use path, approximately 9km in length, linking Aviemore and Carrbridge.

Subject to the successful acquisition of land required to build the scheme, the project will be procured and constructed as part of the adjacent A9 Dualling - Dalraddy to Slochd Dualling scheme.

Welcoming the decision, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport, Stephen Flynn said:

The Scottish Government is committed to promoting active travel in Scotland and making it easier for people to choose walking, wheeling or cycling – and I welcome the decision by Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) to grant the project planning permission.

As part of this ambition, we have been working with our partners in the CNPA, The Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership and Walk Wheel Cycle Trust to deliver a new, safer and more direct active travel link between Aviemore and Carrbridge, linking up with existing routes in the area.

Subject to securing the land required to deliver the scheme, we are committed to include the proposed Aviemore to Carrbridge route in the A9 Dualling construction programme as part of the nearby Dalraddy to Slochd project – improving active travel provision for people and for communities.
