Inverness: Six Options For A9 / A96 Inshes to Smithton Road Scheme

A9 Looking North towards Inshes junction

A series of six different options for the new single carriageway linking the two important trunk roads to the east of Inverness can be viewed at public exhibitions today in Inshes church, tomorrow in Smithton church or online.

Encouraging people to view the proposals, Transport Minister Humza Yousaf said:

“As part of the Scottish Government’s commitment within the £315 million Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, we are taking forward plans for a single carriageway road connecting Inshes and Smithton in the Highland capital.

“Building on the A9 / A96 Connections Study which was completed earlier this year, we have now identified a series of route options which we want the public’s views on.

“When completed the new road will improve the operation of the road network around Inverness both for those travelling long distances and those making local journeys and at the same time improve safety for motorised and non-motorised users of the route.

“This scheme is being taken forward as part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal and we are working closely with our colleagues in The Highland Council to ensure that our scheme fits with their Development Plan for the area east of the A9. As part of that partnership working, a representative from The Highland Council will also be in attendance at the exhibitions to answer any questions on existing and planned development at Inverness East.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in the A9/A96 Inshes to Smithton scheme to attend one of the exhibitions or view the proposals online and give us their views.”
