Islay ferry consultation
The Minister for Transport will meet with key stakeholders on Islay today as part of the wider consultation on the future of ferry services in Scotland.
Jenny Gilruth MSP will hold talks with the Islay Ferry Committee to discuss Project Neptune and local ferry matters, before Transport Scotland officials hold a drop in session in Bowmore for the members of the island community to give their views.
The Minister will also visit Port Ellen where CMAL will take her through the plans to upgrade the harbour, ahead of two new ferries entering service on the Islay routes.
Ms Gilruth said:
“I’m really pleased to be getting out on the Clyde and Hebrides network in person and speaking directly to stakeholders about what we can do to improve our ferry services.
“Project Neptune is looking at the way we run our ferry services – in particular, the governance structures - and I’m keen to hear from local representatives on this matter on how they think we can improve the services they experience.
“We have two new ferries on order for the Islay routes, so I’m looking forward to discussions on bringing them into service and the work to improve harbour operations on the island.
“I share the desires of island communities for sustainable and reliable ferry services and I look forward to continuing our constructive engagement on improving the delivery of future services.”
