M74 delays expected at Raith

M87374 Raith Interchange at night

• WEEKEND CONTRAFLOWS ON A725 REDUCING ROUNDABOUT TO ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION
• RESTRICTED ACCESS TO HAMILTON, BOTHWELL AND M74 NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND

Weekend motorists are being advised to expect delays on the A725 on all approaches to Raith Roundabout, M74 Junction 5, as part of the £500m M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project.

Resurfacing works on Raith Roundabout will take place over the weekend, from 13 – 16 January. These works will require a contraflow to be in operation for the duration of the weekend, reducing the roundabout to one lane in each direction.

13-16 January Contraflow:

The weekend contraflow will be on the south side of the roundabout and will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction from 8pm on Friday 13, to 6am on Monday 16 January 2017.

As a result, there will be no access to the Raith roundabout from the M74 southbound, Junction 5 off-slip. Access to Hamilton, Bothwell and the M74 north and southbound will be restricted, with signed diversions in place.

The A725 northbound Orbiston Junction off-slip will also be closed over the full weekend to facilitate the contraflow. A local diversion route will be in place via Bellziehill Junction.

Access to and exit from Strathclyde Park onto Raith roundabout will be maintained.

Signed diversions will be in place for all routes via A725 High Blantyre, A725 Bellziehill and the M74 north and southbound via Junction 6 Hamilton and Junction 2A, Fullarton.

Graeme Reid, Project Manager for the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project, said:

“These works have been scheduled to take place over the weekend to avoid disruption to commuters during the morning and evening peaks.

“Whilst we’re doing everything we can to minimise the disruption, delays will be inevitable, and we’re asking motorists to check the Transport Scotland and Traffic Scotland websites for updates, to plan their journeys in advance and to look at taking an alternative route if possible.”

When complete, the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project will significantly reduce congestion across the central Scotland motorway network, shaving approximately 15 minutes off the daily commute through Raith Junction.

Traffic management layouts change regularly, therefore road users are advised to routinely check the Transport Scotland website and the Traffic Scotland website for live updates; www.transportscotland.gov.scot and www.trafficscotland.org
