Motorists warned of significant delays on M74 on approach to junction 5, Raith for 10 days mid-July for essential bridge works
Motorists are being warned to expect significant delays on the M74 in both directions on approach to Junction 5, Raith, for approximately ten days from mid-July for essential bridge maintenance works.

A contraflow will be in place on the north and southbound carriageways from 8pm on Tuesday 16 July, until 6am on Thursday 25 July 2019, between Junction 6 Hamilton/Motherwell and Bothwell Services.
This major traffic management is required to allow essential waterproofing and maintenance works to Raith Bridge on the M74 northbound carriageway, which crosses the River Clyde, and will ensure these works are carried out safely.
As a result, the M74 north and southbound will be reduced to a minimum of two lanes in each direction for approximately 10 days.
Road users are advised to avoid the area if possible and use alternative routes.
Graham Drummond, Operations Manager for the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project, said: “Scottish Roads Partnership is asking motorists to plan their journey in advance and if possible to use an alternative route or mode of transport while these essential maintenance works are completed. Due to the nature of these works, there will be periods of time when concrete repairs and waterproofing courses will require time to dry and no works will be visible from the carriageway, however, the traffic management will remain in place.”
Mark Miller, General Manager for Scottish Roads Partnership, the contractor for the project, added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank road users for their patience while these essential maintenance works are completed.”
