Restrictions and closures at M74 Junction 3A
This will see lane closures on the A74/A721 (Black Bear) roundabout from Monday 1 May until Friday 5 May 2017.
This will be followed by the over bridge being closed between the A74/A721 (Black Bear) roundabout and the south roundabout for M74 and Daldowie estate/crematorium from 8pm Friday 5 May until 6am Monday 8 May. At this time, the M74 southbound off-slip will also be closed.
This means, over the weekend, there will be no access from the M74 southbound on to the A721, A74 or Daldowie estate or crematorium.
M74 northbound motorists will be able to access Daldowie estate and crematorium as usual but won’t be able to cross the bridge on to the A721 or A74. There will also be no direct access from the A721/A74 (Black Bear) roundabout on to the M74.
Signed diversions will be in place for the following journeys:
• M74 northbound (prior to J5) – via Junction 5 Raith, B7071, Bothwell and Uddingston
• M74 southbound (prior to J3a) – via Junction 2A Fullarton off-slip and A74 London Road
• M74 southbound (if missed J2a) – via Junction 5 Raith, B7071, Bothwell and Uddingston
• M73 southbound – via M74 northbound Junction 2A Fullarton off-slip
For M74 southbound journeys to Daldowie estate/crematorium, drivers should divert to Junction 5 Raith and return via M74 northbound to Junction 3a Daldowie.
Journeys from Uddingston to M74 northbound should divert via A721/A74, M73 northbound to Baillieston roundabout, M73 southbound link road to M74 northbound.
Pedestrian access across the bridge will be maintained during these works.
This traffic management is needed for kerbing, barrier and road surfacing works as part of the £500m M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project.
The Daldowie junction and the connection between the M74 and M73 is undergoing a significant upgrade and there will be further restrictions in the weeks ahead. For up-to-date information on traffic management restrictions at Daldowie and across the project, drivers are asked to visit: https://www.transport.gov.scot/traffic-management-updates/
Transport Scotland Project Manager Graeme Reid said: “When complete, the Daldowie junction will offer motorists better access onto and off the M74 as well as more reliable journey times.
“We are entered the final stages of works on the M74 corridor and we would like to take this opportunity to thank local residents and road users for their patience at this very busy time for roadworks.”
