Weekend closure of A90 northbound merge at Findon

The Findon merge slip road onto the northbound A90 main carriageway will close from around 8 PM on Friday 2 February 2018 until 6 AM on Monday 5 February 2018, as part of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty project (AWPR/B-T) works.

The weekend closure, which will enable the contractor to install permanent signage, is required to enhance the safety of workers who will be operating within a confined works area.

To gain access to the A90 northbound carriageway during the closure, road users should travel southbound on the A90 and exit at the Portlethen Junction. They should re-join the A90 travelling northbound.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said:

“The temporary closure of the A90 northbound merge at Findon has been timed to take place over a weekend when traffic is normally quieter to help minimise the impact it may have on road users. However, road users who would normally use this route should plan their journeys in advance so that they can reach their destination safely and on time.

“We would like to ask road users to drive with more caution than usual and to observe all signage for their own safety, as well as for the safety other road users and the construction workforce.

“We would also like to thank road users and the local community for their on-going support and patience during the construction works.”

When complete, the AWPR/B-T will help to reduce congestion, cut journey times, improve safety and lower pollution in Aberdeen City Centre. It will also enable local authorities to develop public transport solutions.

Over the next three decades, the AWPR/B-T is expected to bring in an additional £6 billion to the north-east economy and create around 14,000 new jobs.
