Weekend motorists advised to avoid A725 northbound between Raith and Bellziehill junctions due to closure

Weekend motorists are being advised to avoid Raith Underpass northbound and the A725 northbound from Raith to Bellziehill Junction due to a weekend closure of these routes.

The A725 northbound between Raith and Bellziehill Junctions, including the northbound Raith Underpass, will be closed for the weekend from 8pm on Friday, 28 September until 6am on Monday, 1st October 2018.

The weekend closure is required to allow major surfacing works to maintain the safe operation of the A725.

As a result of the closure, the following slip roads will be closed:

  • A725 northbound on-slip from Raith roundabout
  • A725 northbound off and on-slip from Orbiston Junction
  • A725 northbound off-slip from Bellziehill Junction

Signed diversion routes will be in place via the M74 northbound for motorway traffic and via Bothwell and Uddingston Main Streets for local traffic.

Access from the M74 Junction 5 Raith to the A725 East Kilbride Expressway (southbound), Bothwell, Hamilton and Strathclyde Country Park, will be maintained.

Road users are advised to avoid the area where possible and use alternative routes.

Mark Miller, General Manager of Scottish Roads Partnership, said: "These road surfacing works are a necessary part of the operation and maintenance of this section of the A725 from Raith to Bellshill.

“We are aware of the inconvenience and disruption caused while these works are underway, but we would like to reassure road users that we will complete these works as quickly as possible to minimise delays.”
