This scheme is being combined with the A77 Haggstone Climbing Lane Scheme to form a single contract and will be procured on this basis.
Benefits of this project will include:
- Reduction of accidents and improved safety
- Improved travel times to and from the ferry terminals at Cairnryan and Stranraer
- Increased number of overtaking opportunities on the route
- Maintaining the asset value of the A77 route
These details are available from the programme document.
Impact on travel
Minor delays during construction will result in long-term safety improvements, better overtaking opportunities and reduced journey times.
Convoy systems or temporary traffic light systems will be in operation during the construction of the tie-ins at each end of the scheme.
The environmental impact of this project is predominantly the loss of land within a 9,000 hectare Special Protection Area/Site of Special Scientific Interest. This loss of land may marginally reduce foraging area for Hen Harrier, a species protected under the EC Birds Directive.
