A77 Glen App improvement Project

This scheme is being combined with the A77 Haggstone Climbing Lane Scheme to form a single contract and will be procured on this basis.

  • Reduction of accidents and improved safety
  • Improved travel times to and from the ferry terminals at Cairnryan and Stranraer
  • Increased number of overtaking opportunities on the route
  • Maintaining the asset value of the A77 route

Impact on travel

Minor delays during construction will result in long-term safety improvements, better overtaking opportunities and reduced journey times.

Traffic management

Convoy systems or temporary traffic light systems will be in operation during the construction of the tie-ins at each end of the scheme.

Environmental impact

The environmental impact of this project is predominantly the loss of land within a 9,000 hectare Special Protection Area/Site of Special Scientific Interest. This loss of land may marginally reduce foraging area for Hen Harrier, a species protected under the EC Birds Directive.
