A77 Haggstone climbing lane

What's involved?

The project involves the construction of a northbound climbing lane on the A77, four kilometres north of the Cairnryan ferry terminal. The A77 will be widened to accommodate a 1,800 metre-long third lane. This scheme is being combined with the proposed A77 Glen App improvement scheme to form a single contract and will be procured on this basis.

Project benefits

Improved safety by providing a guaranteed overtaking opportunity.

These details are available from the programme document

Impact on travel

Minor delays during construction will result in long-term safety improvements, better overtaking opportunities and reduced journey times.

Traffic management

Extensive tidal flow working conditions will be required when the carriageway width is reduced to one operational lane.

Environmental impact

There will be some permanent loss of woodland in the Glen App valley.
