A77 Park End to Bennane Improvement Project

What's involved?

There will be a widening of approximately 2.9km of existing Trunk Road to provide alternating dedicated northbound and southbound overtaking lane.

Project benefits

• Reduce accidents and hence improve safety.
• Improve travel times to and from the ferry terminals at Cairnryan and Stranraer.
• Increase the number of overtaking opportunities on the route.
• Maintain the asset value of the A77 route.

Impact on travel

Delays during construction, which will result in long-term safety improvements, improved overtaking opportunities and reduced journey times.

Traffic management

Convoy systems or temporary traffic light systems will be in operation during the construction of the scheme for its entire length.

Environmental impact

The environmental impact of the scheme is not anticipated to be significant.  Land-take will be minimised to reduce impact upon local farming operations.
