New M8 opening in two phases — what you need to know

Overview

  • Revised junctions
  • Local access has changed
  • Plan your journey

The new M8 is opening to traffic in two phases.

The first phase will see it opened to westbound traffic from Eurocentral to Baillieston for the first time on the evening of Sunday 23 April.

The second phase will see it opened to eastbound traffic between Baillieston and Eurocentral for the first time on the evening of Sunday 30 April.

The M8 features a new road layout and heavily revised junctions which mean both local and national journeys will change.

This will have the largest effect on those using the Bargeddie, Shawhead, Carnbroe and Eurocentral junctions.

After opening, traffic management, signed diversions and temporary speed restrictions will remain in place to allow final construction work to be completed.

As a result, road users are being urged to familiarise themselves with the route maps (accessed via the links below) which profile typical journeys eastbound and westbound along the A8/M8 corridor.
