Main objectives of the Bus Infrastructure Tier 2 Awards
The main objectives of the Tier 2 awards are:
- delivery of the grant funded bus infrastructure projects
- provide high-quality bus infrastructure projects which contribute to the four priorities of the National Transport Strategy (NTS2) vision – to reduce inequality, take climate action, help deliver inclusive growth and improve health and well-being. Also contributing to reducing child poverty as one of the First Minister’s priorities
- fit with the area’s overall strategy for integrated transport, to encourage a modal shift from cars to more sustainable transport modes to reduce emissions
- align with the NTS2 sustainable travel and investment hierarchies, including to prioritise bus over other types of motorised traffic; and ensuring integration with other modes
- improve bus journey times and provide greater reliability, by prioritising bus over other types of traffic thereby encouraging modal shift and improved bus services
- demonstrate partnership strength and commitment, including through operator ‘match in kind’ action and/or investment to further improve bus services should the Scottish Government contribution to construction projects exceed £0.5 million
- for the lead Local Authority and its partners to effectively deliver the projects, with local political buy-in
- to effectively monitor and evaluate the projects
- in delivering the projects, consider steps that might promote fair working practices, including payment of the Living Wage, as this relates to the Grantee’s areas of responsibility
