Ramparts up to 2 metres high surround the site on all sides, and in places facing stone up to five battered courses high, were noted. Elsewhere at the base of the rampart much tumbled stone was noted. These walls appear to be wrongly positioned, and too substantial to be related to forestry or stock enclosure. Given the location, the site may represent a fort on Caufield's Military Way. The south side of the site may be approached along a spur of MR 8 running from Site 23. The monument is visible on aerial photographs taken before the plantation was established. (Kirkdale Archaeology 1994)
