Description

BEAR Scotland has been commissioned by Transport Scotland to carry out resurfacing works, including a Crack & Seat treatment and filter drain recycling along a 650m section of the A82 trunk road, approximately 2.2km south of the village of Luss.

Key plant and equipment to be used on site includes a paver, planer, 3CX JCB, two rollers, bowser, road sweeper and an emulsion sprayer. For the Crack & Seat operations additional special equipment will be utilised, breaker, PTR roller and an FWD Rig. A welfare unit with a generator will be established on site within traffic management (TM), and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will be required for the transport of materials and waste.

The resurfacing and Crack & Seat treatment procedure is as follows:

  • Set up TM
  • Mill out existing asphaltic layers down to existing lean mix layer
  • Carry out Crack & Seat Treatment
  • Resurfacing follows (bond coat, EME2 binder course then surface course)
  • Repeat process on other side of the carriageway to match extents
  • Install road markings and studs

The filter drain recycling procedure is as follows:

  • Set up TM
  • Dig out existing filter material and feed through the on-site machine for cleaning
  • Cleaned recycled aggregate then goes back into the excavated area
  • Virgin aggregate brought on to site to top up any low points

The works at the A82 South of Luss are scheduled for delivery within the 2026/27 Financial Year. This scheme is currently set to commence on the 16th of August 2026 for a duration of 10 nights, between the working hours of 19:00-06:00. However, changes to the programme may result in revised start dates or working hours.

TM will consist of a convoy system with two-way traffic lights (TTLs) within working hours. Should the programme be revised, the TM arrangements may also be subject to change.

The scheme is located along the A82, approximately 2.2km south of the village of Luss within the Argyll and Bute Council administrative area between the following National Grid References (NGRs): NS 35801 90141 - NS 35644 89540.
