Project Details

Description

Resurfacing works are required to maintain the safety and integrity of a section of the A92 carriageway, between Freuchie and Muirhead in Fife covering an area of approximately 1ha. The pre-construction investigation has highlighted that various extents of fretting are present along the carriageway. Resurfacing is required in order to rectify these defects. Inlay depths will vary due to the high number of structural defects found throughout the site, with a mixture of surface course and binder inlays with deeper inlays where investigation dictates. Construction activities and the associated plant and machinery required are as follows:

  • Implementation of Traffic Management (TM) and marking out site (TM plant);
  • Removal of existing surfacing and milling to agreed depths (planer, wagon, lorries);
  • Resurfacing to the existing road levels using TS2010 aggregate, AC binder, AC base (paver, roller);
  • Reinstatement of road markings, linings, and studs (lorries/wagons and plant); and,
  • Removal of TM.

The proposed construction is programmed to be undertaken and completed within the 2026-2027 financial year during nighttime hours. The duration of works is still to be determined.

Traffic management required for construction activities will consist of road closure utilising a diversion route for travellers. This diversion will re-route traffic using the A914 to Cupar and the A91 to Melville Lodges roundabout. This diversion route will add an additional 30 minutes onto journeys.
