Proposed Scheme
Description of the Plan
A plan showing the proposed scheme in relation to the adjacent villages of Dunkeld, Birnam and Inver. The plan identifies locations where the design has been developed or refined through the DMRB Stage 3 process.
Birnam Junction
Layout provides a merge and diverge loop in the northbound direction, and a merge slip road in the southbound direction. A southbound diverge slip road is not provided.
The existing B867 and Perth Road are realigned and passes under the A9 carriageway. Walkers, Wheelers, Cyclists and Horse-riders (WCH) provision is included from the southern tie-in on the B867 and Sewage Works.
Network Rail Maintenance Access Track
A left-in, left-out junction is provided on the northbound carriageway to provide maintenance and emergency vehicle access to Dunkeld and Birnam Station and Network Rail assets.
Dunkeld & Birnam Railway Station
A replacement car park, with approximately 50 spaces, will be provided at the top of Station Road with a pedestrian underpass linking to the existing station building and both platforms. The pedestrian underpass will include stairs and lifts and be fully accessible for walkers, wheelers and cyclists. The car park design includes potential provision for public transport and cyclists facilities.
Dunkeld Junction
Dunkeld Junction provides a five-arm roundabout connecting the A9 (north and south), A923, A822 (Old Military Road), and the Unclassified Road to Inver.
The circulatory carriageway of the roundabout provides 3 lanes.
River Braan Bridge
The bridge provides footpath/footway provision adjacent to both the northbound and southbound carriageway to maintain and enhance the local path network.
Compensatory Flood Storage Area
Provided as mitigation measures to achieve negligible increases in flood risk to key receptors such as the road, railway and properties.
Flood Relief Culverts
Provided as mitigation measures to achieve negligible increases in flood risk to key receptors such as the road, railway and properties.
The Hermitage Junction
A left-in, left-out junction is provided on the northbound carriageway to provide access to the Hermitage. The junction layout includes a central island, a nearside auxiliary lane diverge taper and a nearside merge taper.
Inver Maintenance Access Track (North)
A left-in, left-out junction is provided on the southbound carriageway to provide access to a SuDS feature and field. This incorporates a nearside auxiliary lane on the southbound approach for diverging traffic.
Dalguise Junction
Layout provides a merge and diverge loop in the northbound direction, and a merge and diverge slip road in the southbound direction.
The existing B898 is realigned and passes under the A9 carriageway.
River Tay Bridge
Provides footpath/footway provision adjacent to the new southbound carriageway with increased segregation to maintain and enhance the local path network.
