1. An individual’s CHS record will only be retained for three years after death, therefore the records for many of those at fault who died in a collision will no longer be held. The quoted figures, therefore are likely to under-represent the true picture.

2. Under the EU’s Vehicle General Safety Regulation, many of the technologies and safety systems identified as potential countermeasures are now mandatory on all new vehicles. The UK Government have not yet made a decision as to whether they will adopt the same standards for new vehicles manufactured in this country.
