Active Travel

The implementation of suitable active travel features for walking, cycling and horse-riding is an important part of the A75 Springholm and Crocketford Improvements. Any new active travel features will be designed to blend with the existing network of paths and cycle routes and connect with public transport where possible.

The route options recommended for further assessment are all expected to result in a significant reduction in traffic through Springholm and Crocketford. This will help to improve road safety and make active travel more attractive for local, everyday journeys.

As part of DMRB Stage 2, a Preliminary Walking, Cycling and Horse-riding Assessment will be carried out in accordance with DMRB GG 142. This involves a high level review of the existing active travel facilities in the local area and the identification of potential opportunities for improved or new facilities. These opportunities will be further developed as the project progresses.

We will continue to engage and consult with interested groups and the local community to inform the development of these opportunities.
