DMRB Stage 2 Route Options Development

The A75 Springholm and Crocketford Improvements DMRB Stage 2 Route Options Development Process consists of:

  • Identification of route options, including hybrid options
  • Refinement of route options considering environmental, engineering, traffic and economic factors
  • Route Option Sifting
  • Remaining toute options taken forward to DMRB Stage 2 Assessment
  • Identification of preferred route option and publication of DMRB Stage 2 Assessment Report

The DMRB Stage 1 Assessment recommended that three improvement strategies should be taken forward for further assessment at DMRB Stage 2.

At our previous event in September 2025, we presented six early DMRB Stage 2 route options, two within each of the three improvement strategies.

Since then, each route option has been further developed to reflect the requirements of each of the cross-sections under consideration, namely Dual Carriageway (end to end, along the full length of the route option), WS2+1 Carriageway (end-to-end, along the full length of the route option) and Single Carriageway (including overtaking opportunities through the provision of an additional lane where appropriate).

“Hybrid” route options were also identified and developed to reflect the various cross-section requirements, combining sections of the route options contained within two of the improvement strategies.

This development resulted in a total of 15 route options.

These route options were then subject to a Sifting Assessment which is explained in the following banners.
