Description

BEAR Scotland has been commissioned by Transport Scotland to carry out joint replacement and resurfacing works on the M9 Forth Bridge. The works will consist of expansion joint replacement and carriageway resurfacing 15m either side of both expansion joints for a length of approx. 135m (0.6ha).

Construction activities for the works are as follows:

  • Set up traffic management (TM) and mark out site.
  • Breakout and remove the existing expansion joints.
  • Road to be planed for 15m either side of both joints.
  • Install new joints.
  • Resurface the carriageway 15m either side of both joints.
  • Tidy site, remove TM and open road.

The works are programmed to be completed within the 2026/2027 financial year with works expected to begin on 15th September 2026. Works will be undertaken over 30 nights (20:30-06:00). Traffic Management (TM) is currently programmed to be in the form of alternating lane closures of the M9 as well as full overnight closures with a signed diversion. The diversion route will be confirmed following contractor approval.

Location

The scheme lies on the M9 Forth Bridge to the northwest of Stirling within the Stirling Council area and is surrounded by business premises and arable land.
