Drink-drive collisions and casualties

Estimates produced by the Department for Transport suggest that the numbers of drink-drive collisions and casualties in Scotland fell by 47% and 40% respectively between 2014 and 2024 (the latest year for which estimates are available). The estimates, which are rounded to the nearest ten, suggest that collisions fell from a rounded estimate of 340 to 180, and that casualties fell from a rounded estimate of 470 to 280.

While fluctuating from year to year, the number of people killed as a result of drink-drive collisions is estimated have risen from a rounded figure of 20 in 2014 to a rounded figure of 30 in 2024. The number of adjusted serious casualties is estimated to have fallen by 31% (from roughly 130 in 2014 to some 90 in 2024).
