Police Management Information Data

HS provided the latest management information data, highlighting that Police Scotland is continuing to monitor the analytical data to identify trends in activity and investigate how they can be prevented. Police Scotland continue to work with TS on emerging trends and threats.

When discussing motorcycle casualties, the Chair advised that the PRIME initiative, led by TS, has been well received.

HS added that Police colleagues in England are keen to deliver/replicate this initiative and is due to meet with them shortly.

SW advised that TS is working on a national roll out document and is happy to liaise with Police colleagues as they plan to roll this out in England.

Update on 2030 Targets

IG presented casualty data from the Reported Road Casualties Scotland 2022 publication. An update was provided on the progress towards each of the 2030 casualty reduction target and the mode and user specific targets.

The following was noted:

  • Fatalities went up from 141 to 173 (23%). Overall GB increase in fatalities is 10%
  • 101 fatalities happened on 60 mph roads
  • Total casualties went up from 5,111 to 5,621 (10%) (but third lowest since records began)
  • 70+ has the most fatalities of any age group (47)

CP queried stats on public transport and asked if older road users may choose to drive as opposed to using public transport due to covid.

IG replied that stats on public transport use have not returned to pre-pandemic levels.

The cost of living crisis was highlighted that road users may be unable to make the repairs required on their vehicles.

Action Point: HS to liaise with Transport Scotland to discuss PRIME initiative.
