The A68 Trunk Road (Jedburgh) (20mph and 30mph Speed Limit) Order 2024

The Scottish Ministers hereby give notice that they propose to make the above Order under sections 84(1)(a) and 124(1)(d) of , and paragraph 27 of schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 which will have the effect of imposing a 20mph and 30mph speed limit on the following lengths of road:-

20mph Speed Limit

That length of the A68 Edinburgh – Carter Bar Trunk Road at Jedburgh from a point 27.5 metres or thereby south of its junction with High Street, northwards on Bongate and Edinburgh Road to a point 33 metres or thereby north of its junction with Headrig, a distance of 758 metres or thereby.

30mph Speed Limit

  1. That length of the A68 Edinburgh – Carter Bar Trunk Road at Jedburgh from a point 33 metres or thereby north of its junction with Headrig, northwards on Bongate and Edinburgh Road to a point 162 metres or thereby north of the point where it meets the extended centreline of Bankend North, a distance of 501 metres or thereby.
  2. That length of the A68 Edinburgh – Carter Bar Trunk Road at Jedburgh from a point 27.5 metres or thereby south of its junction with High Street, southwards on Newcastle Road to a point 56 metres or thereby south of the point where it meets the extended southern kerbline of Oxnam Road (C15), a distance of 609 metres or thereby.

Full details of the proposal are contained in the Order which, together with plans showing the length of road involved, a statement of the Scottish Ministers’ reasons for proposing to make the Order and the order that is to be revoked in part may be examined free of charge during normal business hours from 22nd February until 22nd March 2024 at the offices of Transport Scotland, George House, 2nd Floor, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD and Visit Scotland Jedburgh ICentre, Murray’s Green, Jedburgh, TD8 6BE.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should send details of the grounds for objection by email to TRO-Objections@transport.gov.scot or in writing to the Director of Roads, c/o Shannon Wilson, Transport Scotland, George House, 2nd Floor, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD quoting reference SE/A68Jedburgh/SW by 22nd March 2024.

Statement of Reasons

The Scottish Ministers aim to promote the safe and efficient use of the roads for which they are responsible.

The Scottish Ministers are satisfied that the introduction of a 20mph Speed Limit and 30mph Speed Limit for the purpose of reducing the speed of motor vehicles will be in the interests of road safety.
