The A702 Trunk Road (Biggar) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2025

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(a), which will impose a temporary 20mph speed restriction on that length of the A702 Edinburgh - Abington Trunk Road (Biggar) from a point 115 metres or thereby west of the extended centre line of the junction with the B7016 Broughton Road to a point 55 metres or thereby south west of the extended centre line of Loaningdale Avenue, a distance of 288 metres or thereby.

The Order, which is required in the interest of road safety, will be in operation from 30th June 2025 until 30th December 2026 and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations, or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 Compatibility Consideration and Narration of Statement of Compatibility

The Scottish Ministers have made the following statement regarding children’s rights.
“In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, the A702 Trunk Road (Biggar) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2025 is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.”
