The A702 Trunk Road (Carlops) (20mph Speed Limit) Order 2024

The Scottish Ministers hereby give notice that they propose to make the above Order under sections 82(2)(a) and (b), 83(1), 84(1)(a) and 124(1)(d) of, and paragraph 27 of Schedule 9 of, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which will have the effect of derestricting and imposing 20mph limit on the following lengths of road:-

Derestricting of roads

1. That length of the A702 Edinburgh – Abington Trunk Road at Carlops from a point 118 metres or thereby south of its junction with D1/1 Kitleyknowe, to a point 79 metres or thereby north of the county boundary, a distance of 729 metres or thereby.

20mph Speed Limit

2. That length of the A702 Edinburgh – Abington Trunk Road at Carlops from a point 118 metres or thereby south of its junction with D1/1 Kitleyknowe, northwards to a point 277 metres or thereby north of its junction with D94/1 Allan Ramsay Square, a distance of 762 metres or thereby.

Full details of the proposal are contained in the Order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road involved, Orders being amended/revoked, a statement of the Scottish Ministers’ reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be examined free of charge during normal business hours from 5th April 2024 until 3rd May 2024 at the offices of Transport Scotland, George House, 2nd Floor, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD, Co-op Food-West Linton, 21-23 Main Street, West Linton, EH46 7EE and West Linton Post Office, Main Street, West Linton, EH46 7EE.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should send details of the grounds for objection in writing to the Director of Roads, c/o Shannon Wilson, Transport Scotland, George House, 2nd Floor, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD quoting reference SE/A702Carlops/SW or by email to TRO-Objections@transport.gov.scot by 3rd May 2024.

Statement of reasons

The Scottish Ministers aim to promote the safe and efficient use of the roads for which they are responsible.

The Scottish Ministers are satisfied that the introduction of a 20mph Speed Limit for the purpose of reducing the speed of motor vehicles will be in the interests of road safety.

The proposed Order also derestricts the length of road described in Part 1 of the schedule.
