The A737/A738 Trunk Road (St James Viaduct) (Temporary 30mph and 50mph Speed Restrictions) Order 2026

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which will have the effect of temporarily restricting the speed of vehicles to 30mph and 50mph on the below specified lengths of road -

30mph Speed Limit

That length of the A737/A738 St James Interchange – Kilwinning – Hawkhill Trunk Road at Linwood being the A761 on slip road to the A737 from the point it diverges from the A761 to the point where it merges with the A737 northbound, a total distance of 400 metres or thereby.

50mph Speed Limit

That length of the A737/A738 St James Interchange – Kilwinning – Hawkhill Trunk Road at Linwood from its junction with Barrochan Road in a generally north easterly direction to a point 750 metres or thereby after its junction with the A761, a total distance of 3,750 metres or thereby.

That length of the A737/A738 St James Interchange – Kilwinning – Hawkhill Trunk Road at Johnstone being Barrochan Road on slip road from the point it diverges from Barrochan Road to the point where it merges with the A737 northbound, a total distance of 400 metres or thereby.

The Order, is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public, will be in operation from 22 May until 1 September 2026 and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

No speed restriction imposed by this Order applies to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations, or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 Compatibility Consideration and Narration of Statement of Compatibility

The Scottish Ministers have made the following statement regarding children’s rights.

“In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, The A737/A738 Trunk Road (St James Viaduct) (Temporary 30mph and 50mph Speed Restrictions) Order 2026, is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.”
