The A737/A738 Trunk Road (St James Viaduct) (Temporary Prohibition on Use of Road and Temporary 30mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1) and (2), 4(1) and 14(1)(a) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which will have the effect of temporarily prohibiting traffic from one lane and temporarily restricting the speed of vehicles to 30mph on that length of the A737/A738 St James Interchange – Kilwinning – Hawkhill Trunk Road at the St James Viaduct from its junction with the A761 in a generally north easterly direction to its junction with the M8 Eastbound, a total distance of 2,600 metres or thereby.

The Order, is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road on the viaduct, will be in operation from 24 April until 14 August 2026 and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs. No speed restriction imposed by this Order applies to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations, or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 Compatibility Consideration and Narration of Statement of Compatibility

The Scottish Ministers have made the following statement regarding children’s rights.

“In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, The A737/A738 Trunk Road (St James Viaduct) (Temporary Prohibition on Use of Road and Temporary 30mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026, is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.”
