The A78 Trunk Road (Greenock) (Temporary Prohibition on Use of Road) (No. 2) Order 2022

Notice of direction under section 15 (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The Scottish Ministers have directed that, as they propose to make provision to reproduce the effect of the A78 Trunk Road (Greenock) (Temporary Prohibition of Use of Road) (No. 2) Order 2022 (S.S.I. 2022/366) but that in consequence of the procedure required to be followed in connection with making that provision it cannot come into operation until the temporary order ceases to be in force, the temporary order shall continue in force.
The order has the effect of temporarily prohibiting traffic on that length of the A78 Greenock – Prestwick Trunk Road being the nearside lane of the northbound carriageway known as High Street, Greenock, from its junction with the Oak Mall goods entrance to a point 30 metres or thereby south west of its junction with the Bullring Roundabout, a distance of 156 metres or thereby.

The order, which was required because of likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, not attributable to road works was in operation from 12 December 2022 and would have expired on 12 June 2023. On 8 June 2023, the Scottish Ministers issued a direction under section 15(3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 continuing the order in force until 12 December 2023. On 4 December 2023, the Scottish Ministers issued a further direction under section 15(3) continuing the order in force until 12 June 2024, unless a further direction under section 15(3) is given, or the order is revoked or amended.

The order does not apply to vehicles being used in an emergency for fire brigade, ambulance, police or coastguard purposes.
