The A78 Trunk Road (Largs) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(a), which will have the effect of imposing a temporary 20mph speed restriction on that length of the A78 Greenock – Prestwick Trunk Road (Largs) from a point 146 metres or thereby south of the extended centre line of the junction with Haylie Brae in a generally north westerly direction to a point 15 metres or thereby south of the extended centre line of the junction with Newhaven Grove, a distance of 2.854 kilometres or thereby.

The Order, which is required in the interest of road safety, will be in operation from 13 March 2026 until 13 September 2027, and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations; or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

An alternative route is not required.

UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 Compatibility Consideration and Narration of Statement of Compatibility

The Scottish Ministers have made the following statement regarding children’s rights.

“In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, the A737/A738 Trunk Road (Kilwinning) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026 is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.”
