The A78 Trunk Road (Skelmorlie to Largs) (Temporary 40mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026

The Scottish Ministers hereby give notice that they have made the above Order, under sections 2(1), 4(1) and l4(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which will have the effect of imposing a 40mph speed restriction on that length of the A 78 Greenock - Prestwick Trunk Road from a point 11 metres or thereby south of the extended southern kerb line of Eglinton Terrace, Skelmorlie, to a point 640 metres or thereby no,th of the centre line of Danefield A venue, Largs, for a distance of 4.65 kilometres or thereby.

The Order, which is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public will be in operation from 12th September 2026 until I J th March 2028 and will only have effect in relation to such part or patis of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations; or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

Narration of Statement of Compatibility

In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, the A78 Trunk Road (Skelmorlie to Largs) (Temporary 40mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026 is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.
