The A8 Trunk Road (Comet Road to Shore Street, Port Glasgow) (Trunking & Detrunking) Order 202[ ]

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Scottish Ministers propose to make the following Order:

The A8 Trunk Road (Comet Road to Shore Street, Port Glasgow) (Trunking & Detrunking) Order 202[ ] under section 5(2) and (6) of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, the general effect of which will be that sections of the footpath and splitter island at Greenock Road will become trunk road and sections of the sections of footpath crossing Comet Road shall cease to be trunk road.

Full details of the proposal and contained in the Order which, together with the plan showing the length of road involved, a statement of the Scottish Ministers’ reasons for proposing to make the Order may be examined free of charge during normal business hours from 29/09/21 to 10/11/21 at Port Glasgow Library, Fore Street, Port Glasgow, PA14 5EG; Watt Institution, 15 Kelly St, Greenock, PA16 8JX and Inverclyde Council HQ, Municipal Buildings, Clyde Square, Greenock, PA15 1LY.

Any person wishing to make any representations about the project may do so by email to TRO-Objections@transport.gov.scot stating the title of the scheme, and the grounds of objection; or in writing to the Director of Roads, c/o Jack Rorison, Transport Scotland, Buchanan House, 58 Port Dundas Road, Glasgow, G4 0HF quoting reference SW/A8/JR. Any such notice must be received on or before 10 November 2021.

Part 1 - Interpretation

In this schedule:

  • “the trunk road” means the existing M8/A8 Edinburgh - Greenock Trunk Road
  • “the plan” means the plan marked TR01 within the plan folio entitled “The A8 Trunk Road
    (Comet Road to Shore Street, Port Glasgow) (Trunking and Detrunking) Order 202[ ]”, signed
    with reference to this Order and deposited at the offices of Transport Scotland, Trunk Roads
    and Bus Operations, Buchanan House, 58 Port Dundas Road, Glasgow
  • “Point 1” means the south-east corner of the splitter island that accesses the Tesco Superstore,
    Greenock Road, Port Glasgow PA14 5BP, 160 metres or thereby west of the centreline of the
    trunk road as shown on plan number TR01 in the plan folio.

Part 2 - Route of the new trunk road

  1. From a point on the trunk road, 15 metres or thereby south east of point 1, located on the southern edge of the existing traffic island at the Tesco access road, in a generally south easterly direction for a distance of 14 metres or thereby, to a point 29 metres or thereby south east of point 1. The area is located between points marked “A” and “B” located around the western radius of the new Comet road junction.
  2. From a point on the trunk road, 44 metres or thereby south east of point 1, located on the southern edge of the traffic island at the Tesco access road,  in a generally south westerly direction for a distance of 14 metres or thereby, to a point 58 metres or thereby south east of point 1. The area is located between points marked “G” and “H” located around the eastern radius of the new Comet road junction.
  3. From a point on the trunk road, 23 metres or thereby south east of point 1, located on the southern edge of the existing traffic island at the Tesco access road, in a generally southerly direction for a distance of 12 metres or thereby, to a point 35 metres or thereby south east of point 1. The area is located between points marked “I” and “J” located on the centre splitter island of the new Comet road junction.

Part 3 - Length of road ceasing to be a trunk road

  1. That length of the trunk road from a point 14 metres or thereby south east of point 1, located on the southern edge of the traffic island at the Tesco access road in a generally easterly direction for a distance of 10 metres or thereby, to a point 24 metres or thereby south east of point 1. The area is located between points marked “C” and “D” between the western radius of the new Comet road junction and the centre splitter island.
  2. That length of the trunk road from a point 28 metres or thereby south east of point 1 in a
    generally easterly direction for a distance of 10 metres or thereby, to a point 38 metres or thereby
    south east of point 1 as shown by zebra hatching between points marked “E” and “F” on the plan.
