The A85 Trunk Road (Oban) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2025

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(a), which will impose a temporary 20mph speed restriction on that length of the A85 Tyndrum - Oban Trunk Road at Oban from a point 194 metres or thereby north of the extended centre line of the junction with Park Hotel Lane southwards to a point 55 metres or thereby southwest of the extended centre line of the junction with Aird’s Crescent a distance of 776 metres or thereby, and that length of the A85 Tyndrum - Oban Trunk Road at Oban from a point 69 metres or thereby north of the extended centre line of the junction with Argyll Street northwards to a point 20 metres or thereby north of the extended centre line of the junction with Victoria Crescent a distance of 433 metres or thereby.

The Order, which is required in the interest of road safety, will be in operation from 22 September 2025 until 22 March 2027 and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations, or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

Statement of Compatibility

The Scottish Ministers have made the following statement regarding children’s rights. 

“In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, the A85 Trunk Road (Oban) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2025 is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.”
