The A899 Trunk Road (Dalwhinnie) (40mph Speed Limit) Order 202[ ] - Draft Stage
The Scottish Ministers hereby give notice that they propose to make the above Order under sections 84(1)(a) and 124(1)(d) of, and paragraph 27 of schedule 9 of, the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 which will have the effect of imposing a 40mph speed limit on that length of theA889 Dalwhinnie - Laggan Bridge Trunk Road from a point 769 metres or thereby south of its intersection with the extended centreline of Station Road, Dalwhinnie, in a generally northerly direction to a point 826 metres or thereby north of its intersection with the extended centreline of Station Road, Dalwhinnie, a distance of 1.595 kilometres or thereby.
Full details of the proposal are contained in the Order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road involved and a statement of the Scottish Ministers’ reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be examined free of charge during normal business hours from 13 August 2026 until 14 September 2026 at Badenoch Library, Badenoch Centre, Spey St, Kingussie, PH21 1EH, Post Office, Dalwhinnie Filling Station, Dalwhinnie, PH19 1AF and at the offices of Transport Scotland, 177 Bothwell Street, Glasgow, G2 7ER.
Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should send details of the grounds for objection in writing to the Director of Roads, c/oNicola Brennan, Transport Scotland, 177 Bothwell Street, Glasgow, G2 7ER or via email to TRO-Objections@transport.gov.scot quoting reference NW/A899/NB by 14 September 2026.

Statement of reasons
The Scottish Ministers aim to promote the safe and efficient use of the roads for which they are responsible.
The Scottish Ministers are satisfied that the introduction of an extension to of the existing40 mph Speed Limit for the purpose of reducing the speed of motor vehicles to the north of Dalwhinnie village where there is pedestrian footfall will bein the interests of road safety.
There is no change to the existing 40mph limit.
