The A9/A99 Trunk Road (Latheron) (Temporary 40mph Speed Restriction) Order 2024

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which will have the effect of temporarily restricting speed to 40mph on the following lengths of road –

  1. That length of the M9/A9 Edinburgh - Stirling - Thurso Trunk Road from a point 341 metres or thereby south of its junction with the A99 Latheron to Wick Trunk Road in a generally northerly direction to a point 234 metres or thereby north of that junction, a distance of 575 metres or thereby.
  2. That length of the A99 Latheron to Wick Trunk Road from its junction with the M9/A9 Edinburgh - Stirling - Thurso Trunk Road in a generally south easterly direction to a point 50 metres or thereby east of the access road leading to the Latheron Parish Churchyard, a distance of 282 metres or thereby.

The Order, which is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public, will be in operation from 21st February until 1st November 2024, but will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the lengths of road as are indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations, or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.
