The M77/A77 Trunk Road (Girvan) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(a), which will have the effect of imposing temporary 20mph speed restrictions on the following lengths of road:

  1. That length ofM77/A77 Glasgow – Stranraer Trunk Road at Girvan from a point 54 metres or thereby south of the extended centre line of its junction with Elder Avenue northwards to a point on Glendoune Street at the extended centre line of its junction with Cauldshore, a distance of 234 metres or thereby.
  2. That lengthof M77/A77 Glasgow – Stranraer Trunk Road at Girvan from a point on Glendoune Street at the extended centre line of its junction with Cauldshore northwards along Kirkpatrick Street then Henrietta Street then eastwards along Knockcushan Street then northeastwards along Bridge Street then Old Street to a point 490 metres or thereby east of the extended centre line of its junction with Montgomerie Street, a distance of 2.245 kilometres or thereby
  3. That length ofM77/A77 Glasgow – Stranraer Trunk Road at Girvan from a point on Glendoune Street at the extended centre line of its junction with Cauldshore northwards along Glendoune Street then Dalrymple Street to a point on Dalrymple Street at the extended centre line of its junction with Knockcushan Street, a distance of 1.178 kilometres or thereby.

The Order, which is required in the interest of road safety, will be in operation from 30 March 2026 until 30 September 2027, and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations; or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 Compatibility Consideration and Narration of Statement of Compatibility 

 The Scottish Ministers have made the following statement regarding children’s rights.  

“In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, the M77/A77 Trunk Road (Girvan) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026 is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.”
