The M9/A9 Trunk Road (Inveralmond to Birnam) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic, Specified Turns, Overtaking and Speed Restrictions) Order 2019

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1) and (2), 4(1) and 14(1)(a) and (4) and 15(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(a). The effect of the Order is to:-

1. Prohibit use of any vehicle, prohibit overtaking and impose speed restrictions on the following lengths of road:

Those lengths of the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M9/A9 Edinburgh – Stirling – Thurso Trunk Road from Inveralmond Roundabout at Perth to a point 3.7 kilometres or thereby south of the A822 Amulree Road at the Pass of Birnam.

2. Prohibit the following specified turns:-

a. All right turns from the A9 to Luncarty North, Tullybelton East and West, and Stanley East Junction.

b. All right turns from the A9 Southbound to Bankfoot South Junction.

c. All right turns from the B867 onto the A9 South.

d. All right turns from the Bankfoot North Junction onto the A9 North.

The Order, which is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the lengths of road will be in force from 1st February 2019 and will be revoked on completion of the works. The prohibitions and restrictions contained in the Order will only have effect in relation to the lengths of road specified above when indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.  The prohibitions of traffic and overtaking do not apply to vehicles being used in an emergency for fire brigade, ambulance, police or coastguard purposes or vehicles used for carrying out the works. The speed restrictions do not apply to vehicles being used in the service of the Special Forces or to vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

Alternative routes for the traffic during the prohibition will be signposted.
