A9 Pitlochry to Killicrankie

Overview

The A9 between Pitlochry and Killicrankie is being upgraded to a dual carriageway as part of Transport Scotland's wider A9 dualling programme. As part of that, the 5.7km stretch from Pitlochry to Killicrankie will be developed by Jacobs Engineering on behalf of Transport Scotland.

Community engagement

Community engagement is a priority with all of our projects. Working with those affected by the A9 dualling programme is at the heart of our planning and we regularly run engagement events to consult local communities, road users, businesses and individuals as our plans are progressed.

Designing the route

The section of the A9 between Pitlochry and Killiecrankie presents unique challenges including:

  • widening the 160m span structure over the River Tummel and the 150m span structure over Loch Faskally, both designated as Special Areas of Conservation, will introduce environmental and construction challenges
  • improving junctions and road layout within a constrained corridor
  • working alongside and over the Highland Mainline Railway.
