Scotland’s Railway is tackling the climate emergency through:

  • a Programme for Government commitment to decarbonise the railway
  • investment in faster, greener new electric trains
  • longer trains giving more seats
  • quieter trains   

Our railways are becoming greener:

  • by the end of 2019, around 75% of all passengers journeys will be made on electric trains
  • there’s more opportunity to active travel connections through increased train and station cycle spaces

Scotland’s Railway is helping business become greener too:

  • we actively promote rail freight as an alternative to road haulage
  • that’s because every freight train removes 76 HGVs from our roads.
