Scotland's Railway: Investing in infrastructure
Scotland’s Railway is encouraging better travel choices and improving connectivity by creating the longest domestic railway in 100 years.
That means we’re growing the railway through:
- building new lines between Airdrie and Bathgate, as well as Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour St
- bringing back services to south east Scotland after 50 years with the opening of the iconic Borders Railway
But we’ve not stopped there, we’ve also:
- electrified several lines making journeys faster and greener
- upgraded the Highland mainline and the between line Aberdeen and Inverness
There’s more to be done as we work towards decarbonising even more of the rail network but our commitment is clear, as set out in the Programme for Government.
