Description
BEAR Scotland has been commissioned by Transport Scotland to carry out a suite of drainage works over a 960m stretch of the A83 Trunk Road south of the Rest and be Thankful (RaBT) viewpoint. The works will include some excavation to facilitate drainage works. Plant to be utilised will include excavators, plant, vehicles, and hand tools. These drainage works will involve:
- Installation of four new chambers and rodding eyes to bypass BT chambers (as required).
- Rockfill scour protection where appropriate to drainage outfalls into channels.
- Upon completion of the above; checks to outfalls to ensure sufficient drainage.
These works are currently programmed for the 2025/26 financial year, with works currently programmed to commence in October 2025, with the duration expected to be approximately 2 weeks. Site working hours will be between 08:00 and 18:00. Changes in the programme may result in a change to the proposed working hours/commencement dates.
Traffic management (TM) will involve a single lane closure with two-way temporary traffic lights. A site compound will be established within the TM.

The scheme is located on a section of the A83 carriageway approximately 400m east of the RaBT viewpoint, within the Argyll and Bute Council region (Figure 1), with the following National Grid Reference (NGR) points: Start: NN 24013 06548 / End NN 23427 07274.
