This publication provides a broad range of transport statistics including road vehicles, traffic, casualties, bus and rail passengers, road and rail freight, air and water transport and personal travel.

This annual report is produced as part of the Programme's performance management responsibilities and is informed largely by information submitted by the three Police Scotland regional Safety Camera units (East, North and West)

Transport Scotland’s Trunk Road Adaptation Plan (TRAP) is an action focussed approach to achieving Trunk Roads which are well adapted and resilient to the current, projected, and unexpected impacts of climate change as detailed as an outcome within Transport Scotland’s Approach to Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience (ACCAR).

In order to understand customers’ expectations, an annual survey of a representative cross section of road users is undertaken, to identify which aspects of the trunk road service are important to them and to ascertain the level of overall satisfaction.

Transport Scotland conducted an Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) to examine whether the Transport Noise Action Plan (TNAP) 2024–2028 may differentially affect groups with protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

In line with the Scottish Government’s National Indicator to ‘improve people’s perceptions of the quality of public services’, Transport Scotland have been undertaking annual surveys since 2007 to determine the level of road user satisfaction in relation to a defined set of trunk road services, e.g. road condition, road works and winter maintenance.

The Transport Noise Action Plan (TNAP) 2024 to 2028 sets out a range of, direct and indirect, actions we will take during the next 4 years, to reduce the impact of transport noise, building on the work we have taken forward in previous years.
