The A68 Trunk Road (Lauder) (20mph Speed Limit) Order 2024

The Scottish Ministers hereby give notice that they propose to make the above Order under sections 82(2)(a) and (b), 83(1), (84(1)(a) and 124 (1)(d) and paragraph 27 of Schedule 9 of, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which will have the effect of de-restricting and imposing a 20mph speed limit on the following lengths of road:-

De-restricting of Road

That length of the A68 Edinburgh – Carter Bar Trunk Road at Lauder from a point 420 metres northwest of its junction with the B6362 Stow Road to a point 72 metres northwest of its junction with Thirlestane Drive, a distance of 1.368 kilometres or thereby.

20mph Speed Limit

That length of the A68 Edinburgh – Carter Bar Trunk Road at Lauder from a point 112 metres south of its junction with Thirlestane Drive, north westwards on East High Street, West High Street and Edinburgh Road to a point 38 metres northwest of its junction with the DL18/5 Whitlaw Road Industrial Estate, a distance of 1.55 kilometres or thereby.

Full details of the proposal are contained in the Order which, together with a plan showing the length of road involved, Orders being revoked, a statement of the Scottish Ministers’ reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be examined free of charge during normal business hours from 23rd February 2024 until 22nd March 2024 at the offices of Transport Scotland, George House, 2nd Floor, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD and Lauder Post Office, 18 Market Street, Lauder, TD2 6SR.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should send details of the grounds for objection in writing to the Director of Roads, c/o Shannon Wilson, Transport Scotland, George House, 2nd Floor, 36 North Hanover Street, Glasgow, G1 2AD quoting reference SE/A68Lauder/SW or by email to TRO-Objections@transport.gov.scot by 22nd March 2024.

Statement of Reasons

The Scottish Ministers aim to promote the safe and efficient use of the roads for which they are responsible.

The Scottish Ministers are satisfied that the introduction of a 20mph Speed Limit for the purpose of reducing the speed of motor vehicles will be in the interests of road safety. The proposed Order also derestricts the length of road described in Part 1 of the schedule.
